Home Gardening

Been growing some fresh produce in the garden.
Got the plants from my grandfather. Popped them in the ground and now I have the freshest easiest and cheapest choice for salads, sandwiches, wraps and all sorts! Lettuce is a naturally easy to use item.

Lettuce that growns up! Never seen this before. If anyone knows the name please comment :)

I never thought the same of spinach, but Ive learnt that adding to meals is a nice filler. Something juicy and creative and so colourful!

Fresh Spinach in the front, sneaking a peak from behind is our red lettuce.

Meal ideas:
Add some fresh lettuce to lasagne, and any form of pasta.

Personal fave:
Cook up some rice (brown, jasmin, you pick!) fry up onions, mushrooms, and peppers, add some garlic.
Add Spinach at the last, cover with a lid and let the spinach boil up on top of your mixture. Then mix it all together in the rice, add a bit of Cayenne Pepper and for the cheese addicts like me, chuck in some Feta or even good old fashion grated cheddar cheese! Mouthgasm!!

Thanks for the read ;)

Think about it

What if there is a different way to live?

“In a world where 1% of the population owns 40% if the planets wealth…in a world where 34,000 children die every single day from poverty and preventable diseases, and where 50% of the world’s population lives on less than 2 dollars a day.. One thing is clear: Something is very wrong”
                                                                                                ˞ The Zeitgeist Movement

2 Dollars a day is R17.69 a day, there is an enormous amount of wealth out there, and the system that controls it, controls it to our detriment. We have all been touched and seen the damage that this system does to our society. People are helpless, homeless and in debt. I am sick and tired of hearing about a zero increase on my salary because the companies are failing to meet their debt requirements. Hearing about how the price of petrol is going up by 41c per litre (as 6 February 2013) Etolls are still being pushed despite the massive public outcry. Why? Because money is being wasted on things that don’t matter.

If you don’t understand what matters, it might be time to take a step back. Have a look around you; look at the people who are the same as you, with their own struggles, their own stresses. And we are all enslaved. Our brothers and sisters die horrible deaths, caused by lack, caused by greed. Our earth is straining under the pressure of misuse and waste.

And who is planning and profiting from the destruction? The same corporates that benefit from grief and “misfortune” Medical supplies companies, Eskom, Health Care, Military, and Insurance companies… where does the profit from human misery end?

So what are we suggesting?

To understand the reason behind the madness, there are things you should start thinking about. The system will crash. It is said that in order for us to cover the interest from debt made by the man on the street. The interest that we pay over, pays the investmors of the corporate companies, the big guys. Their livelihood is invested in the consumption of the general population. Because of inequality in our societies, we are getting to a point where in order for us to recover the money, tax deductions will increase to 60% of your salary... Countries need financial bail-outs for the amount of debt they have made. Which does makes me wonder about the amount of money the ANC has and still is investing in the Etolls – shops renting spaces, staff members salaries etc.

So in essence we are creating the extinction of mankind. If we are not able to emotionally and mentally evolve to a higher being, who knows what ends we will meet.

“Its like we watch humanity bring around its own destruction”

Overwhelming? Keep Reading

While a revolutionary movement worldwide is slowly happening, it may be too late. We might be in a country that falls apart. And where will that leave us?

Some ideas we have started testing out, while we are all in residential property. Practical ways must be possible even though we might still rent or own an apartment in a block of flats. So we will start researching and testing out different ways of bringing down your monthly expenses, in order to free up your disposable cash.
The biggest problem we agree on is DEBT. Being in our twenty-something’s we have debt. So what could you do about it? Well stop wasting money you don’t have! Obviously, but sometimes living gets to the point where you are surviving on your debt. Your monthly salary doesn’t quite reach over to the next month. Throw in one unexpected car expense, medical bill (because of course you can’t afford medical care/your medical aid does not cover the full expense) and you are pushed over your limit.

So we plan to test and see how far we can push the line. For me myself if I could cut out only my student debt, credit card debt and one clothing account I could have an additional R1200 per month disposable income, without having to slave away day in day out to meet my living needs. Well debt doesn’t just disappear? You are right. So we still need an amount of money to pay that debt off.

We need a way to live, a way to have additional disposable cash, and fewer expenses. We will test just how far you can push the limits, what are the alternatives? We will be looking at advantages and disadvantages of sustainable living. Using resources that are not controlled by the hands of the economy, that cannot be cut off or increase suddenly, we are suggesting living off the land, alternatives, independence.

Funnily enough, we have a theory that by doing the exact things we need to do to help save this precious place called home, is the only way we can survive in the end.
